The mangroves made every turn look like the first turn. Elara lowered the radio volume, put the map away, and followed the only thing that repeated: a small silver wake between the roots.
No straight route
The channel bent left, right, then left again. A loud plan would not have helped. Elara worked one short cast at a time and let the water correct the route.
A fish at the hinge
At the tightest bend, a bass turned into the shade beneath an old branch. The lure followed late but gentle, and the rod answered from the dark.
A quieter station
The last entry was less a report than a thank-you: low tide, slow hands, nothing extra.
